Sky and Formula 1 Secure Landmark Broadcast Extension Through 2034
Formula 1 and Sky have solidified their long-term future together, announcing a massive multi-year extension that ensures the broadcaster remains the exclusive home of the sport in the UK, Ireland, and Italy well into the next decade. This renewed partnership follows a period of unprecedented domestic growth for F1, with viewership figures reaching record highs across European markets.
The new agreement grants Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland exclusive rights for an additional five seasons, extending their coverage through the conclusion of the 2034 championship. Meanwhile, Sky Italia have secured their broadcast rights through 2032. Fans in these territories will continue to have access to every session; from opening practice through to the Grand Prix; on Sky’s dedicated channels and the NOW streaming platform. The deal also encompasses full coverage of feeder series, including Formula 2, Formula 3, and the F1 Academy, as well as the younger-skewing “F1 Kids” broadcast.
The decision to extend comes on the back of a viewing boom. In the UK and Ireland, the 2025 season was the most-watched in the sport’s history, with total viewing up 90% since Sky became the exclusive broadcaster in 2019. Notably, the sport has seen a 120% surge in fans under the age of 35 and has more than doubled its female viewership. Italy has experienced a similar “Antonelli effect” in 2026; following the debut victory of Kimi Antonelli in China, live audiences have jumped by 25%, with millions tuning in across both Sky and the free-to-air channel TV8.
F1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali praised Sky as a “trusted and passionate partner,” noting that their high-standard of analysis and content creation has been a primary driver in expanding the sport’s reach. He highlighted the broadcaster’s “world-leading approach” as a key factor in the decision to continue the relationship.
Sky Group CEO Dana Strong echoed this sentiment, pointing to the investment in storytelling and innovation that has helped the sport enter a new era. She noted that with rising stars like Kimi Antonelli and a wealth of British talent on the grid, the sport has never been in a stronger position. For fans without a subscription, the deal maintains accessibility by ensuring highlights of every race and live coverage of the British Grand Prix remain available on free-to-air television.
