The reigning world champion, Lando Norris, expressed a sense of disappointment regarding the tactical choices made by McLaren during the Miami Grand Prix. Although he secured the 45th podium of his career, a missed opportunity for victory remained the primary focus after he was undercut by Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli. This result marked a third consecutive win for the young Italian, who capitalized on a strategy error to seize the top spot.

Norris maintained a steady two-second advantage as the 57-lap race approached its midpoint. Mercedes triggered the decisive sequence by bringing Antonelli into the pits first, while McLaren chose to keep the Briton out for one additional lap. Although Norris managed to emerge from the pit lane ahead of his rival, the superior grip of Antonelli’s fresher tyres allowed the Mercedes driver to close the gap instantly and execute a pass for the lead at Turn 4.

Despite keeping the Italian under pressure for the remainder of the afternoon, Norris finished just over three seconds behind at the chequered flag. This outcome allowed Antonelli to extend his lead at the top of the championship standings further. While Norris voiced his immediate frustration over the team radio, suggesting that the win had been within their grasp, he later acknowledged the significant strides the team had made. He noted that McLaren have improved substantially following the recent five-week break and highlighted that being back in the hunt for poles and race wins is a testament to the hard work put in by the entire squad.
